LauraLaura Stimpson ‘The Voice of Yesteryear’ is a vintage singer. She is based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. She sings a range of songs dating from the 1920s – 1950s. Genres include jazz, musicals, festive and wartime favourites.
Laura has always been convinced she was born in the wrong era. At an early age she developed a love of music from the 1940s after listening to her grandparents records. She would spend hours singing along and asking questions about the war. A love for the period was born.
As she grew up Laura realised she loved music and sharing that love is a real passion for her. In her youth she joined various musical ensembles in the North East of England. She enjoyed singing and playing the cornet. This experience widened her musical horizons and learning about various musical styles. It also gave her the opportunity to perform in front of large audiences. Laura has performed in many prestigious performance spaces across the country and on TV.
Laura relocated from the North East to West Yorkshire to study drama. This gave her the opportunity to improve her performing skills. She performed in various musicals and taught drama and song writing to local young people. Wanting to continue spreading the joy of the music of yesteryear with others, she decided to entertain professionally.
Laura has a voice which transcends the decades. She performs using high quality backing tracks, a Shure 55SH 1950s style Microphone Yamaha STAGEPAS PA system. She is at home with the music of the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s, jazz and musicals, she can customise her performances to your needs.
